Chemical × Organic Chemical
An organic chemical is part of the large group of chemicals whose molecules consist of carbon. There are some chemicals which contain carbon but still are considered to be inorganic and they include carbon oxides, cyanides and carbonates. The study of organic chemicals is called as organic chemistry. The term organic is name dating back to history to 19th century when the assumption was that organic chemicals could be synthesized only in living organisms through the life force. According to a theory orgnic chemicals were different from inorganic chemicals i.e. from the chemicals which were not synthesized by a life force. This theory was disproved because of the urea synthesizes from ammonium sulfate and potassium cyanate in the Wohler synthesis. Urea is an organic compound which was believed to be found only in urine of organisms. Some carbon compounds which are still considered inorganic are the one’s which were derived from minerals. Organic chemicals are classified on the basis of functional groups they contain for eg. alcohols, alkenes, aldehydes and amines. Most of the organic chemicals constitute aromatic compounds as they possess a common benzene ring in their structure. Organic chemicals also are organometallic compounds which comprise of a metal atom that makes them a hybrid of inorganic and organic chemistry. Several polymers consisting of plastics are organic chemicals as well. These organic chemicals are of main importance in the biochemistry: carbohydrates, antigens and sugars, hormones, enzymes, fatty acids and lipids, nucleic acids, neurotransmitters, peptides, proteins, amino acids, fats, oils, vitamins and many more.
